Interpretation In Pursuance Of Books La Symphonie pastorale
«[...] je n'ai point encore dit l'immense plaisir que Gertrude avait pris à ce concert de Neuchâtel. On y jouait précisément La symphonie pastorale.

A moral and philosophical tale of a pastor (married Protestant clergyman) who adopts a blind girl from a just deceased rural widow. There's an improbable couple of months in which he rapidly teaches language to this previously mute, almost feral, teenager (the widow was deaf, so never bothered to speak to the girl), following the model of de Condillac's statue (which is explicitly referenced). His selective education in this Pygmalion scenario leaves her in a state of Edenic purity, which, likeQuite nice book. I read it for school and I enjoyed analysing it, the ending wasn't what I predicted though.
La symphonie pastorale, André Gide La Symphonie pastorale is a French novella written by André Gide published in 1919. It is about a pastor who adopts a young blind girl whom his daughter, Charlotte, names "Gertrude". The title refers to Beethoven's Sixth Symphony (also known as the Pastoral Symphony) which the pastor takes Gertrude to hear. It also refers to the pastor's own symphony with Gertrude. His wife, Amélie, resents Gertrude because the pastor dedicates more attention to Gertrude than

I think I read this in Governor's School when I was in love with my french teacher Etienne, and then again in college. What is that line that always gets me-- "il y a toujours les papillons.."
La symphonie pastorale is a novel about which Im not sure what to think. There are plenty of merits. Gides writing is, as usual, outstanding. The novella centers around a country priest who agrees to care of a blind girl named Gertrude. They live a sort of perfect existence, with her life and spiritual formation completely dependent on him. Unfortunately, Jacques, more suitably her age, also falls in love with Gertrude. The priest attempts to judge for himself the suitability of Jacques, but it
In which the greatest philosophical proposal of all is answered directly: Is Love Blind?Literally. No shit. Guy loves a blind girl.I love Gide, I read the Gide, but this was nowhere near his strongest work. Still better than Gerald Murnane, though. What a sad but beautiful story. They all start like this. At least three other stories I know that started out the same way. Then love and then death.
