1885

When seventeen-year-old Clara Boutwell married her dashing coworker, William McDonald, she was convinced her life was near perfect. The journey before them as newlyweds in the great city of Chicago was promising and exciting. But a frightening disease soon takes William in its grip, forcing them to the clean air of the western frontier in a desperate attempt to save his life. But pioneering doesn’t prove to be easy, with miles between neighbors instead of fences. On the eastern Washington prairies, the McDonalds face hardships and trials in a new world where everything is tested, from physical endurance to emotional strength—down to their relationship and faith in the Lord.

This novel tells the incredible true story of Clara and William, the great-great grandparents of the author, in a sweet narrative full of laughter, tears, and the struggles of an early pioneering family. Prepare yourself to share in their experience as you read this account of a pioneer family in Washington state, and see their lasting legacy that has endured into the fifth generation.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars Ahhhh, I just love this book so much!!! :D Seeing as how I read an e-ARC I will certainly be buying a hard copy as soon as possible. :) I feel like I should start this review by commenting on the whimsical beauty of this book. Because it truly is a beautiful story. <3 I have seen in other reviews where it was mentioned that the book had a Laura Ingalls Wilder or Janette Oke feel, and I agree. Though The Old River Road isn't third-person (as are the Little House books)

Wow! What a great book! Ivy Rose has a wonderful way of transforming the reader to the life of Clara and her family. I loved it so much! The writing style is amazing. Ivy did a great job of bring out the details and letting the reader see it all unfold. The story is so beautiful and the fact that it is a real life happening makes my heart sing with delight. I can hardly wait for the next book. The first half of the book was so lovely with Clara and William's romance unfolding and the second half

This was a sweet story of one family's faith. I loved how it was about true events of the author's family!

This was a very sweet book. I must admit going into it I was expecting more of a normal novel outlined book, but it ended up being more of just the story of Clara's life. Don't get me wrong, I liked the layout, It just threw me off so I wasn't expecting it. I ended up really enjoying the free style and lack of super firm plot. Clara is just an ordinary girl, much like a lot of us. When the story begins she is seventeen and the youngest of a lot of girls, which I loved because I can really relate

{3.5 stars}I was drawn to this book before I read it as I love stories that delve into family history. This made the book even more real, and it was fun to figure out what might be fact and what might be fiction :)William and Clara unfortunate bump into each other on the street leads to a romance that will forever change their life. While, the book is focused on them getting together and starting a family, it isn't a heavy romance book. I found it natural and sweet. My favorite part of this book

I've been wanting to read this book since I first heard it was being written. I wasn't disappointed. Well written, engaging, sweet, heartbreakingit was all there. I had to wipe tears away so I could keep reading. (I don't usually cry when I read a book.) Knowing that this story is based on the events of real people made the story even better. You could tell the author has seen many of the places in this book for the descriptions weren't vague as so often happens. My only complaint was that book

Oh goodness...where to start? The Old River Road was one of the best historical fictions I've ever read. What makes it better is that it's a true story about real people!I loved this book. I both laughed, and cried. (And crying is something I do NOT do. Ever.)Ivy Rose is a truly amazing author. I'm excited for the second book to be finished and published.I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in historical fiction. Fantastic! One last thing; I want to rave a little about the
