While many believe the sinking of the TITANIC was the worst Maritime disaster in our nations history. It wasn't. On the night of April 27th 1865 the steamship SULTANA exploded on the Mississippi River with nearly 2000 war-weary Union soldiers aboard. Most had just been released from Cahaba and Andersonville P.O.W. camps. The majority of these men never made it home.A GLIMPSE OF FREEDOM is a novel based on the life of one of these men. It is well paced, easy to read and has plenty of action...all with a moving, ironic twist. Highly recommend it to anyone who just likes a good, pure, solid story. The author cleverly uses familiar historical names, places and events as the umbrella for a fresh new story about unexpected friendship, love, duty and doing the right thing regardless of the cost. This was a GoodReads giveaway.Unfortunately, I just finished Hell or Richmond this morning, so it really pales in comparison. To be fair, I should have waited a month or so, befroe picking up this story. It was a very light read. Don't get me wrong. I liked the story, for a simple piece of fiction, based upon some true events. It just fell short of being a memorable tale. I would still recommend it to the right person. I felt it was written for a much younger audience. The story just seemed a
