Assessment About Books An Elegy Written In A Country Churchyard
I realize that this is supposed to be one of the greatest poems ever written in the English language, but I just wasn't impressed.

I particularly enjoy the work of Thomas Gray and Elegy in a country churchyard is probably his darkest work. You can feel the tormented Cambridge poet coming through in his delicate work here. Though, I prefer some of his other poetry more, this is a damn good read and best appreciated aloud.

The paths of glory lead but to grave!!!simply defines our life

There's a reason he's only known for one poem . . . though he only published 13 in his life so perhaps that's not fair. Really, though, only the one is good.

Sepulchral Architecture never had been so fascinating 'ere Gray's Elegy. The theme is set at the opening quartrains where he writes:"The curfew tolls the knell of parting day,The lowing herd wind slowly o'er the lea,The ploughman homeward plods his weary way,And leaves the world to darkness and to me."

This poem has touched my soul.
