between extreme doubt and hope, Maalouf has outstandingly laid down a passionate vision and voiced concerns for the future of our world, transcending cultures and nations. wonderful read.

Enlightening. Maalouf did an excellent job portraying today's world, both East and West, from cultural, ethical, religional point of views, staying in the middle with equal distances to every side. Although he emphasized in almost every other chapter that the opinions he was standing up for was solely and totally are of his own, between the lines, those were also the opinions he wished every human being had deep down. I was especially impressed with the modern-day utopia he had built in the

Amino Maalouf states his view on the evolution of humanity in modern times and makes a convincing case against radicalism and prejudgment. A call to humanity to unite and take charge of the future. Most ideas have been discussed by earlier authors but the insights derived by Maalouf are worth knowing.

When I read it, I could hear the voice of a wise father kindly scholding us for the harm we are causing the world. This book should be translated in all of the languages of the world. It makes so much common sense, it sheds light on some very simple solutions for the world's problems, you have to wonder why there aren't more people thinking the same thing.

I stole this book, some earrings, a brownie and beer from my sister's house which goes to show she's awesome and I like her even though she's going to cry tears of blood if she tries to tackle her birthday gift (der reinen Vernunft) while I'll be happily sitting on mine, a giant (seriously, HUGE) pouf. So why should I be jealous if she gets all wised up in history, sociology, law and all those books she's reading as long as my butt is comfortable. I might have slept through parts of Hamlet but I

Contains some fascinating insights but generally a disjointed affair.
