Excellent story. Ann Rule has long been one of my favorite authors, but she is most well known for non-fiction. This book is a novel, but written with the same attention to detail and character development as her non-fiction books. Sam and Danny are partners on the Natchitat police force. Sam is divorced, and Danny and his wife, Joanne, have been married 14 years. Danny and Joanne, though deeply in love, are going through some marital strife because they have been unable to conceive. SamAnn Rule's worst book!

I was disapointed to find out this book was not true. It was hard to put this book down. Very graffic though.
This survival/true crime novel wasn't bad, I I found it to be a little too sensationalistic for me. As a dramatization of a true story it's to be expected, but still I think it could have been better than it was.
This is a really disturbing book. It is gripping and will keep you engaged. I do not know that you will come away from it with a good feeling. While there is a degree of true possibility in it regarding hostage behavior, I felt it was contrived in places. The primary female character is almost dehumanized in the novel. While there is something of a reconciliation toward "normal" at the end, I cannot say it is a positive or even upbeat ending. Well-written yes, but read at your own risk.
I didnt care for any of the characters. As a hiker / backpacker, I found some parts unrealistic. Premise and suspense were good.
